Beauty Addition 002: BeautyBay.com Experience

As you can tell, we have finally gotten our hands on the infamous Urban Decay Naked Palettes!
We ordered this at the beginning of the year, but due to certain difficulties, we only have posted now so keep reading to find out what happened...

Order Date: 2nd January
Dispatched Date: 3rd January
Received Date: 14/15th January
excuse the fuzzy pictures!

Urban Decay Naked 1 Palette
RRP: $50.63 (at time of purchase)
Purchased for: $45.57 each
Saving: 10% (used promo code)

Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette
RRP: $28.13 (at time of purchase)
Purchased for: $25.31
Saving: 10% (used promo code)

Naked Palette: For both of us, when we received the palettes, they were smaller than expected, and upon opening, they didn't look brand new.  One had looked like it had been opened, tampered with and the eyeshadow pans looked as if they were swatched by someone else beforehand; which lead us to believe that we got unlucky and got the palettes that someone else returned.
And comparing to Benefit packaging, UD didn't do the best job on packaging the Naked.

Naked Basics Palette: This was also smaller than expected! The packaging was a lot better than the Naked palette though. When I first opened it, I first noticed that one of my shades ALSO looked swatched. Didn't really think about it then but probably should've taken photos before I had swatched everything myself!

What made matters worse was that one of the Primer Potion that came with the Naked Palette was..... empty.  As if it was never filled to begin with.  After receiving "second handled" palettes, and an empty UDPP, I sent an email to both Urban Decay (US) and BeautyBay.  UrbanDecay responded to my email within 1-2 days, telling me that they can't do anything about it and this is a problem that I have to contact BeautyBay about.
BeautyBay, on the other hand, didn't respond to my 3 emails that were each sent a few days apart.  It was only until when I called their international number, spoke with one of their customer service representatives, sent through the following picture for proof, and they kindly said that a replacement would be sent out to me.

Date of Call: 4th February
Dispatch date: 5th February
Received Date: 14 February
Overall, our feelings towards this BeautyBay experience is very meh ATM... Getting second handled palettes was a massive thumbs down.  I mean, you don't pay almost $120 AUD for palettes that someone else already used right??
The initial lack of communication from BeautyBay regarding the empty UDPP was rather disappointing, but I'm glad they sent a full sized UDPP as a replacement, which was a nice surprise.
In terms of shipping and packaging, BeautyBay does a great job of sending your products drowning in styrofoam in a sturdy box, so definitely a 10/10 in that department.

At this point, we probably would stay away from BeautyBay for awhile, as it wasn't the best experience for our first time.

Have you ordered from BeautyBay before?

Just a question as well for those who have ordered the Naked or Naked Basics Palette, did you guys have a clear (circle) sticker at the opening of the plastic box for it to "remain sealed"?
(Just wondering cos neither of ours did and one of our friends said hers did have that sticker)

  1. I ordered the naked 2 from BeautyBay and I got no problem.

I order often from them. But I'm still waiting for one of my packages. I emailed them once, they answered telling me that I need to wait one week more and then re-email them. That's what I did yesterday and I'm waiting for an answer.

  2. Gah! I would be so angry. I had a bit of an annoying experience with beauty bay, it took 4 emails over 25 days to get a response.

  3. i haven't order from that site.
    But thanks for sharing this..

  4. Damn, what a horrible experience. I was planning to order from them thinking they were reputable and a great alternative to Sephora but I guess not. I don't remember if my UD palette was sealed (most likely was since I bought from Sephora) but I'm sure all make up products are to be sealed for hygienic purposes.

  5. I bought my Naked 1 palette from there about a year ago and had no problems. I would be so angry if they gave me a used swatched palette and would put me off from ordering from there ever again. I made an order with Beautybay recently on the 3rd of this month and still havent recieved my package. Alot of people seem to be having problems with recently so I'm going to stay away from them for a few months too. Hopefully my package arrives soon otherwise I'll be in contact with customer service.

  6. Sorry to hear that! Another great makeup store alternative is "Beauty.com" though they're online only. I looove them maybe more than Sephora except they don't carry other brands I like. I went for UD Naked 2 instead of 1...but I'm tempted to jump on the "all naked" bandwagon.

  7. So you didn't ask them to send out replacement Naked Palettes? I would have! That's ridiculous and unacceptable! I bought my Naked Palette from Beautybay too over a year ago and had no issues, and I've since ordered from them again with no problems either. That's seriously horrible of them!!! I've had bad luck with online shopping lately too as you know from my ranting over Benefit =/ I finally received my order 2 months later but they didn't include one set that we ordered!!! So I had to email them again and now i'm waiting on that to arrive. Been so disappointed lately!

    1. I honestly can't remember if my palette had the seal thing.. I just had a look back on my original blog post here http://en-ce-moment.blogspot.com.au/2012/02/revlon-lip-butters-and-urban-decay.html but I can't see any seal :(
And I have no idea if the Benefit products were out of stock but they didn't say so, I think they just didn't see we ordered 2 sets not just 1! Unimpressed. Will be doing a ranty blog post on their customer service when everything finally arrives lol.

  8. I thought about ordering higher end cosmetics from BeautyBay, but I'm glad I didn't. It seems like a lot of trouble with the customer service. I'm sorry that you had such a bad experience with them ):
But at least you have more primer potion :D!

  9. That's awful that their customer service is so blah...not good especially since we aren't responsible for the condition of the palettes! Yet to order from many websites but I've had great luck with sleek.com and allcosmeticswholesale.com!

  17. I haven't ordered from the Beauty Bay before but now I don't think I will want to! What bad luck that you got palettes that appeared to have been tampered with (and already used!) and an empty primer- especially paying top dollar for them! It is just unacceptable but lucky it was all fixed in the end, despite all the trouble you had to go to! I've had one bad experience with Strawberrynet where they sent out a Kiehl's product that was tampered with, had no seal and looked like someone had used it. The packaging was beaten up and the lid was broken which some dirt on it. Yuck! Lucky I got a refund for it though!

  20. I've ordered from them a few times with no problems, in fact, my NP1 is actually from them (but a while ago) and it was in perfect condition! I can't recall if it had a sticker or not, though, sorry.

Such a shame you girls had trouble your very first time. :(

  26. Gosh, I feel so sorry for you! Beauty Bay should have send in an apologize letter/gift as a return of an apology act.

  29. Awww, that's too bad about the missing UDPP in the palettes. But I guess at least they sent a full-sized one eventually? I've ordered from Beauty Bay several times and haven't ever had any major issues with their service. There was a bit of a delay when I ordered around Christmas/NY, but I guess that's to be expected. They don't respond to emails I've found, but usually their stuff arrives at the 10 working day mark.

  33. Wow, I've never purchased on here before. sorry to hear about the bad experience :T. At least they were willing to send you a full size primer.

  37. Aww it's such a shame you had such a horrible experience with them. I've bought from them a few times now and they've been pretty consistent and good in delivering the items.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I have ordered from them before and have had no problem. All three times it took about 2 weeks to get here and I bought the naked palettes. All of them were fine. But recently ive ordered a stila palette and its been three weeks with no sign of the package. I emailed them and they said to keep waiting. Heres hoping

    ReplyDelete
  39. I've been searching reviews because I really want the NAKED Basics.. but ugh, I'm so not putting my money in that company. I'd be FURIOUS to receive an already-swatched palette >:C You should've filed a complaint and demanded a new one! There could be germs and stuff in there!

  40. THEY HAVE THE WORST COSTUMER SERVICE DO NOT BUY FROM THEM

    ReplyDelete
  41. do you think that maybe it was customs who tampered with the products to do some drug testing or something

    ReplyDelete
  42. you know what.. i've puchased palettes and palettes from this company and everytime THEY LOOK LIKE THEY HAVE BEEN SWATCHED. ONE OF THEM EVEN HAS NAIL MARK ON IT..
everything from TOO FACED palettes to URBAN DECAY. gosh

    ReplyDelete
  43. 7 weeks, 7 emails, no parcel, no refund and poor customer service. Their website states 7-10 delivery, but it took them 9 days to post it. After reading many negative reviews about non delivery from around the world I am very suspicious that my parcel was ever posted. I do alot of shopping online and have never had this happen before. Lesson learnt and $40 lost.
