Recently Rita Ora has teamed up with Rimmel to create the new Colour Rush Lip & Nail Collection. It features 6 "Lasting Finish Colour Rush Intense Colour Balms” (what a mouthful) and 6 “60 Seconds Colour Rush Nail Polishes”. The lip colours stay claim to stay put, offering all day comfort wear, without the sticky feeling. The nail polish selection is divided into 3 hot and 3 cool shades, and are named by Rita Ora herself ;)
It seems to be a staple for each makeup brand to have their own selection of lip products housed in a crayon twist-up tube. Like foundations with a pump, it is just something more convenient to use when your in a rush without sacrificing the pigmentation you would get with lipstick. These Colour Rush Balms hold 2.5g of product, with the obvious twist up mechanism and the not-so-bag-friendly lid. Although the lid is more secure than some other crayon lip products, I’m not sure how well they would hold up, with the use and the careless factor increasing with time. If you intentionally sniff the product, you can get a whiff of vanilla, but it fades soon after application. The pigmentation of the two colours shown were impressive: one swipe would give you a nice wash of colour over the lips and you have the option to build it up like what I have done in the swatches. The finish is similar to that of a moisturising lipstick, and the formulation/texture is very creamy to apply, and moisturising on the lips- very comfortable to wear over time.
I find that when looking for an MLBB, I tend to suit the brown-y coloured lip products more so than others because of the natural colour of my lips. Keep Mauving looks like a burgundy/brown in the packaging, which can be intimidating for most people, but considering my personal gravitation to sheer browns, I got along with this colour quite well. As you can see from the lip swatches above, the colour payoff on my lips vs. the colour in the crayon is a little different, but the resulting colour is totally down my alley. Definitely something that I can easily apply if I’m in a rush/indecisive, currently a staple :)
On Fire on the other hand, whilst it appears a little reddish in the swatches, it actually comes up quite bright and fluoro pink on the lips. We both tried this shade out and it just isn't something that we would usually go for. Our skintone is NC20-25 and for both of us; it didn't really compliment our skintone, however someone with a fairer or darker complexion might suit this better. We recommend going into Priceline or Chemist Warehouse to give it a real life swatch to see if you like it or not. As with Keep Mauving, the pigmentation with On Fire was on par with one swipe.
I haven’t purchased any Rimmel 60 Seconds Nail Polishes recently but I remember the first time I bought some, and wasn’t overly impressed with the formula. Fast track to now, and the formulation is improving (but proves to be a hit and miss with shades) and the brush is now thicker *yay*.
- Don’t Be Shy is an in-your-face kind of hot pink, and the application was quite the breeze: no streaking, and two coats to reach full opacity. Something I could see myself sporting over summer, but clearly not daring enough to fully sport during winter :P
- Breakfast In Bed is a light mint green, and although I had such high hopes for this one, it did disappoint. The first coat had the colour opacity that I wanted, but it was wayyy too streaky. Two coats (as shown) minimised the streakiness, but if you were to look close up, you’d see the uneven polish distribution. The colour is a little too cool toned with two coats, so it did look a little strange against my skin tone; so perhaps keep that in mind when purchasing.
With both of these, I didn’t feel like there was any wow factor in drying times, but this does depend on how thick each layer of your polish is.
Overall, Rimmel & Rita Ora did a great job on this collection, the Colour Balms in particular are the standout for us with the moisture and colour payoff. As with most of Rimmel’s products, these are at a very affordable price with the Colour Balms going for RRP $12.95, and the 60 Seconds Nail Polish going for RRP $7.95. Personally thinking of picking up The Redder The Better (Rita Ora’s signature red lip) at the next CW sale ;)
What are your thoughts on this collection?

This collection looks really nice, the colour range is great but to be honest, nothing is jumping out at me! I almost feel like the crayon thing has gotten a bit old? Can't deny their user friendliness though and the formula sounds great though I don't feel like I really need any of the shades, which is probably a good thing!

yes the crayon thing is a little old, but I think I'm getting quite fond of it for daily use- lipsticks still can be intimidating to me for day to day use sometimes! The formula and pigmentation of these are pretty good, but good on you for keeping the wallet happy!
DeleteThe balms look really nice, although it is hard to justify to myself that I need more lip products haha! Breakfast in Bed is SO GORGEOUS, too bad it took some work to eliminate the streakiness! I wish everything was opaque and perfect in one go!

If only every nail polish looked exactly like the the colour in the bottle after one application! Breakfast in Bed was my first mint green nail polish in my collection- was excited to try it out but I'm quite sad with how it looked against my skintone though :(
DeleteI love how the tinted balm looks, I would love to have keep mauving! I have yet to try any products from them the last few years because rimmel seems to be pulled out of singapore! I would love to have the mint polish too!
ReplyDeleteOh damnnn I thought Rimmel was a worldwide kinda thing like Maybelline & Revlon! Keep Mauving is a great everyday colour! x
Deleteon fire is gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteIt is! Too bad it didn't look that nice against my overall skin tone/ features!
Deletei like breakfast in bed, a perfect spring colour! love the post girls!

Thanks Lisa! Breakfast in Bed is a perfect spring colour- the formulation could be improved though
DeleteAh crud, those berry shades (Keep Mauving to On Fire) looked super promising as autumn-esque shades. I was really hoping that the tube would reflect the colour inside! On the other hand though, I can definitely see the appeal in the colours being lighter and less intimidating! (Though they should really change the colour of the packaging, ya know???)
ReplyDeleteHaha yupppp! If only every brand took time to make packaging match the colour of the actual product, life would be easier on everyone :P
DeleteI can't tell whether the colours itself are gorgeous or that your complexion makes all the colours look beautiful, perhaps both! On fire looks amazing on your skin!
ReplyDeleteOn Fire does look really nice on the lip swatch, but I didn't think it goes well with the rest of my face (ya feel me?) Would've loved to be able to pull it off though!
