Skincare Yays of 2015

Following on from our beauty favourites of 2015, here are some of the skincare that stood out to us this year. You've probably read about some of these products in our previous posts, so if they've made it in this post, then they're here for a good reason :)

Shu Uemura Brightening Cleansing Oil
My penultimate, love of my life skincare item that I will stick with til I die (or til the age where I stop wearing makeup). It effortlessly melts off all my make-up to the point where I don't even touch make-up removers, wipes or micellar waters. I've tried other oil cleansers and nothing else seriously compares imo. I'm so glad I got roped into the hype as I will forever repurchase this. lUv yEw LonG Time bABy<3  xx

People for Plants Cucumber Aloe Hydration Gel
I honestly feel like this deserves as much hype as the Indeed Labs Hydraluron. At a cheaper price point ($29.99 for 50ml vs $34.99 for 30ml) I think this is a really great alternative. It absorbs rapidly into your skin once you apply it and your moisturiser just sinks in that little better. I definitely feel a difference in my skin when I don't use this and use moisturiser alone - I feel like the moisturiser doesn't absorb as well. When Priceline has a 40% off skincare sale, I always make sure to put one of these in my basket (hint: you should too).

Philosophy Purity Made Simple Cleansing Oil
My ride or die homie. Unlike Mon, who swears by the Shu Uemura cleansing oil, I didn't seem to love it as much and I think my skin had a weird reaction to it. Anyway, this eaaasily takes off all the makeup and emulsifies quickly with water. Only annoying thing is the dispenser (literally looks like the ones on Tresseme shampoo prods) doesn't control the outflow too well but the product itself is <3

Avene Cicalfate
I'd say the best moisturiser to use if your skin isn't feeling upto scratch. Whether it's dry, sensitive or not feeling it's normal self - I really recommend to use this. Compared to other Avene products, this retails for $15.99 (not sure why though!) which makes it, a bargain. This is really great for winter as it is ridiculously nourishing and is my complete go-to product particularly when I have nasty reactions to makeup and skincare products.

Lush Let the Good Times Roll Cleanser
Mate, this is the best smelling facial cleanser ever. When you open it up, you see a little popcorn embedded in this magical sweet caramel smelling scrub (smells good enough to eat). This has a really good amount of grit that's not too harsh yet still exfoliating enough and can be used for the face and body. I used mine only for the face and this lasted me a very decent 9 months. If you are really into scented, fragrant skincare, I swear by this.
Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Pore Clay Mask
A couple of years ago whilst in Korea, I picked this up on a whim as I have a thang for charcoal, mud, clay things. Thank-you past me, as this product has engrained itself into a staple of my skincare routine. I think this mask is really good for clarifying the skin particularly if you wear make-up routinely and you feel like your skin is getting dull and tired. I would like to apply this once a week but in reality its more like once every 1/2 months zzzz. As you can imagine, this tub lasts me quite a long time (although the texture does get harder as you go) but it still works fine. Again price point is also very attractive, averaging around $15-20.

Lush Rub Rub Rub Scrub
If you're into the rough scrub life, then this blue-slurpee-coloured product is totally for you. With the first ingredient being fine sea salt, it's no surprise that the tub smells like the ocean when you open it. The texture is less thick (and less gel-like) compared to other body scrubs on the market today, but the salt granules are a lot more dense and concentrated. After scrubbing, the "blue part" of the scrub emulsifies when coming in contact with water, leaving your skin baby soft and moisturised. So good.

  1. I actually have the People for Plants hydration gel waiting to be used! I thought it would be more or a moisturiser but I may have to use it as a serum then! Looove cleansing oils, they are absolute staples!

  2. I picked up the Innisfree jeju volcanic clay mask while I was in HK in October and I just used it for the first time the other day. I really liked it!
Girl you love your cleansing oils hey! I tried one of the Shu Uemura ones in the past and I admit, it was sooo effective but I just hate the feeling of oils on my face like that! I don't mind a little face oil in my skincare routine but I just can't seem to get used to the feeling of cleasing oils :c

    1. yes it's so good and affordable; although it'll dry out easily at the rate i'm using it at :P
I think cleansing oils are the fastest, all in one method to get everything off without having to worry about other prods like eye & lip makeup remover etc

  3. I need to try that Innisfree mask so bad! Heard so many good things about it before.

Although, I absolutely hated the Lets the good times roll cleanser. It felt super oily on my skin and made me break out.

    1. Oh nooo, it's the worst when a product breaks you out- could it be the added scents and stuff in the product? As for the mask, it's worth the hype :)

  4. The Cucumber Aloe Hydration Gel sounds so cooling and refreshing! I do love the feel of Hydraluron but it's quite expensive so I'll definitely love to try out other brands. I love Asian masks as they work beautifully on my skin so that Innisfree one will be at the top of my list :)

  8. Wow this is a very comprehensive post. Thank you for taking a deeper look at the products. My biggest concern when it comes to anything that I am going to put on my face is what is in it. The ingredients are so important. And I do not like not knowing what an ingredient is or does. I'm all natural.
